Acting and theater are some of the most creatively engaging things a person can do. But what if, rather than following scripts that other people give to you, you could instead access the amazing ideas within your own head and bring them to life? Well, that is more than possible, with the help of the wonderfully hysterical art of improvisation! Join instructor Adam Rothkopf as he teaches the basics of the art, from constructing characters to creating scenes and storylines on the spot, with plenty of fun improv mini-games interspersed throughout! Students will learn the elements of a scene, what it means to use imaginary props, how to “yes, and,” and all about “zip, zap, zop!” But most importantly, they’ll just have an incredible time laughing at the hilarity of their own crazy selves, in a comfortable and friendly environment that makes it easy to improvise!
January 22-March 19, 6:30-7:30 PM
Cost: $90 ($10/class)
This class is fantastic for beginner actors and improvisers, but is designed to be a blast (and educational!) no matter how much experience you have. Though this class is for the most part literally “all fun and games,” that does NOT mean that there won’t be lots of learning in the process! Therefore, students must have the ability to focus on and follow directions given, take notes where necessary, and be respectful when others are onstage. Additionally, students should come to class in comfortable clothing that is easy to move around in, and bring a water bottle and a notebook/folder with pencils and paper to take a few notes along the way. And get ready to be awesome!
